Kick bishop Brennan up the arse

Father ted is one of the best comedy shows channel four has made.

It featured three Priests who lived together on the remote island of craggy in the south of Ireland.
Father Ted, A well meaning man, but so wrapped up in his own arrogance he is often ignorant to his own surroundings.
Father Dougle, A young priest who is best described as a simpleton. He doesn't understand depth perception, confuses dreams with reality, And is easily exited and confused.
Finally Father Jack Hacket, The drunk.
Jack has a limited vocabulary it includes the words drink, arse, women, knickers, and fek off.
When clergy from the mainland visited Ted coached him to say the words, yes, and " that would be an ecumenical matter "
In his moments of clarity Jack is a nightmare, he is rude and violent, and uses his cunning to deceive everyone around him. However these are often his best qualities as he often saves Ted and Dougle from disaster.

They have a housekeeper called Mrs doyal who looks after them and is sweet natured and loyal but is often inappropriate and misguided in what she believes.

It was a revolutionary comedy especially in Ireland where it caused some controversy.

The religious aspect of the show was second nature to the content as each week a seemingly simple banile task would turn into something outrageous.

For example the priests asked to protest the showing of a film about the passion of Saint Tibulus for example turned into the cinema being full as the contra very of the priests aposing to it meant the best ticket sales from free publicity.

This show was family viewing in our house, it was silly and witty and along with the bbc show the vicar of dibly brought the a parody of private lives of the clergy to the viewing masses.

This however was in the late 90's both series have finished.

And we are left wondering after more than a decade. If the shows were screened now would they have as much success?
