I thought it was necessary to make a new seat to improve the appearance of the peacock chair, and so that it would be more comfortable. I acquire a large piece of foam from an upholstery business, and the owner was kind enough to suggest how best to adapt it to my needs. She suggested a method for getting an accurate measurement (pictured) and said an electric carving knife would be the most efficient way to cut the deep foam.
I had to do it in stages as the knife got quite hot and it was easier to cut from a 90% angle.
Here's how I got on.
